Manure Management

The Chapter 91 Manure Management Program is designed to assist farmers with properly handling manure to prevent nutrient runoff from entering surface or groundwater.

The program is regulated by the Department of Environmental Protection and is a part of the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law. Manure Management Plans are required for all small-scale livestock owners. Even properties with one chicken may require a written Manure Management Plan. Plans are simple and free to develop.

Additionally, farms that cultivate 5,000 square feet or more are required to have a written Agriculture Erosion and Sediment Control Plan.
